Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research (PA-24-187)
NIH’s K24 Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research supports mid-career health-professional doctorates with protected time for patient-oriented research and mentoring junior clinical investigators. The K24 program supports mid-career clinician-scientists conducting and mentoring patient-oriented research, and this NOFO accepts applications proposing independent clinical trials.
Applicants must propose to serve as the lead investigator of an independent clinical trial, a clinical trial feasibility study, or a separate ancillary study to an existing trial as part of their research and career development; applicants not planning an independent clinical trial or seeking experience in another investigator’s trial must apply to companion NOFO PA-24-188. Applications must propose an independent clinical trial or trials; applicants not planning an independent clinical trial, or seeking research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator, must apply to PA-24-188. Non-domestic (non-U.S.) entities and non-domestic components of U.S. organizations are not eligible to apply. Multiple Program Directors/Principal Investigators are not allowed. By the time of award, the individual must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or lawfully admitted permanent resident. K24 award candidates must have a health-professional doctoral degree, including eligible clinical doctoral degrees described in the solicitation. Candidates must have an established record of independent, peer-reviewed patient-oriented research grant funding at the time of application and a record of publications. This award is intended for individuals with a record of supervising and mentoring patient-oriented researchers. Each applicant organization may submit more than one application only when each application is scientifically distinct and from a different candidate. An individual may not have two or more competing NIH career development applications pending review concurrently. Candidates for the K24 award may not concurrently apply for another PHS career award or have another PHS career award pending review. The applicant institution must have a strong, well-established record of research and career development activities and faculty qualified in biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research to collaborate with the candidate. Prospective applications must consult the Table of IC-Specific Information, Requirements, and Staff Contacts to ensure that their application is responsive to the requirements of one of the participating NIH ICs.
All applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization on the applicable application due date.
Errors must be corrected and a changed or corrected application must be submitted to Grants.gov on or before the application due date and time; applications submitted after the deadline will be considered late.
