He founded LUCA Science and has served in senior leadership roles including CEO, Chairman, Chief Scientific Officer, and director. His LUCA biography also says he previously founded a drug-discovery venture in 2000, raised about 4 billion yen as representative director, and led that company to a 2009 IPO.
