Naji N. Abumrad is a Lebanese-American surgeon and medical researcher best known for his long career at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he served as Chair of Surgery and is now Professor Emeritus/Chair Emeritus. His research has focused on obesity, insulin resistance, bariatric surgery, diabetes, and muscle metabolism, and Vanderbilt credits him and colleague Dr. Steve Nissen with co-discovering HMB. He is an AAAS Fellow and remains publicly visible through academic, mentoring, and nonprofit board activity.
