Derek van der Kooy is a University of Toronto professor and principal investigator in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research. His lab focuses on neural development, stem cell biology, learning and memory, and the neurobiology of motivation, and the Donnelly Centre credits his group with discoveries including primitive neural stem cells and adult retinal and pancreatic stem cells.
