Richard E. Honkanen is a biochemist at the University of South Alabama, where he serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. His research focuses on protein phosphatases, carcinogenesis, cardioprotective mechanisms, and cholesterol catabolism, including a 2011 NIH Director's Transformative R01 on enabling cholesterol catabolism in human macrophages. He is also the inventor of the original technology underlying Repair Biotechnologies' Cholesterol Degrading Platform and serves on the company's Scientific Advisory Board.
