Marcel V. Alavi, Ph.D., is the founder of 712 North, a California preclinical biotechnology company developing mitochondrial medicines for age-related diseases including cancer, neurodegeneration, and cardiovascular disease. He earned his Ph.D. summa cum laude from Eberhard-Karls University Tubingen and later held postdoctoral appointments at UCSF and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Public sources also describe him as an inventor, author of dozens of scientific publications, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy Association.
