Mark D. West is an American legal scholar and university administrator focused on Japanese law, comparative law, and corporate governance. He served as dean of the University of Michigan Law School from 2013 to 2023 and was appointed provost of Washington University in St. Louis effective August 1, 2025. Before academia, he practiced corporate law in New York and Tokyo at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.
