Sir Shankar Balasubramanian is an Indian-born British chemist and Herchel Smith Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. He is a senior group leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and co-invented the Solexa DNA sequencing technology with Professor David Klenerman, a platform later commercialized through Solexa and acquired by Illumina. He is also a founder of Cambridge Epigenetix, now biomodal, where he serves in a board-level scientific role.
