Frances Arnold is an American chemical engineer and Nobel laureate best known for pioneering directed evolution, work that earned her the 2018 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She is the Linus Pauling Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering and Biochemistry at the California Institute of Technology and has founded or co-founded companies including Gevo, Provivi, and Aralez Bio. Arnold also serves on major corporate and scientific boards, including Alphabet, and has held prominent public science advisory roles.
