RJx-01 sarcopenia program
phase 2Develop an oral combination therapeutic to treat sarcopenia, including COPD-related sarcopenia, by improving muscle quality, physical performance, and muscle strength.
Proprietary oral combination drug composed of metformin and galantamine; evaluated preclinically in C. elegans and mouse sarcopenia/aging models and clinically in a fully enrolled Phase 2 double-blind placebo-controlled study in COPD-related sarcopenia.
Fully enrolled Phase 2 trial in COPD-induced/COPD-related sarcopenia, supported by Wellcome Leap's Dynamic Resilience program with NIHR Leicester BRC partnership announced on 2024-10-28.
Preclinical studies reported improved lifespan, locomotion, pharyngeal pumping, muscle fiber organization, physical performance, muscle mass and force, neuromuscular junction stability, systemic inflammation, skeletal muscle ultrastructure, mitochondrial morphology, autophagy, lysosomal function, satellite cell content, and reduced denervation and myofiber damage; effects were described as improving muscle quality rather than quantity.
