HSC replacement targets balanced hematopoiesis
Full text
Can replacing aging blood-forming stem cells slow aging? The proposal asks whether one treatment can sustain balanced blood production through year 20.
It would replace 90% of long-term blood-forming stem cells, cells that maintain blood production, that are myeloid-biased, producing too many granulocytes and monocytes, two immune-cell types. Other tissues stay. At 5% or less, biased clones may return. The test: donor and host cells retain balanced lineages, with aging benefits and longer survival. Balanced chimerism, durable donor-host blood production, without those benefits would falsify it. Testing needs aged animals, transplantation, clonal assays, lineage function, mutation histories, immune-repertoire chimerism, survival, and independent functional follow-up.
