Over the past several decades transplantation has been established as a viable, last resort for instances of organ failure. However, the remarkable success rate of these procedures has become limited by the availability of healthy source organs. Taking advantage of the surgical knowledge gained over performance of thousands of transplants combined with greater understanding of immunology and novel post procedure treatment protocols, we are on the verge of solving the basic limitation of transplantable organ availability. This session will describe both the history and the near-term future of how this feat is expected to be accomplished. Moderator Leonardo Riella, MD, PhD, Medical Director of Kidney Transplantation, Massachusetts General Hospital; Harold and Ellen Danser Endowed Chair in Transplantation, Harvard Medical School Speakers Mike Curtis, President & CEO, eGenesis Pablo Legorreta, Founder, CEO & Chairman, Royalty Pharma Julie Sunderland, Founder & President, Oriane Consultin

George is widely recognized for his innovative contributions to genomic science and his many pioneering contributions to chemistry and biomedicine. In 1984, he developed the first direct genomic sequencing method, which resulted in the first genome sequence (the human pathogen, H. pylori). He helped initiate the Human Genome Project in 1984 and the Personal Genome Project in 2005. George invented the broadly applied concepts of molecular multiplexing and tags, homologous recombination methods, and array DNA synthesizers. His many innovations have been the basis f

Ira Pastor ideaXme longevity and aging ambassador interviews George Church, Professor Harvard Medical Centre and MIT, founder Personal Genomes and co-founder of eGenesis and Editas. Ira Pastor comments: Today, as we continue our journey through the bio-architecture of the health aging process, we are going to take some time to hang out at the level of the genome, as well as at the level of the respective bio-products, both natural and "non-natural" that peel off of this genomic knowledge base, not just only for the purposes of human health, but for also for agriculture, energy, the environment, as well some very novel possibilities which for now we will classify as “other”. A lot has changed since we first mapped the human genome back in 2003. But as time has moved on, we have learned so much more in terms of the complexity and uniqueness of this “genomic space”. We’ve discovered that the genome is fluid and highly networked; filled with endless feedback loops, hierarchies of con
