Longevity science has finally reached broad consensus, here's what comes next. Become a Cure member → wewillcure.com/membership James Peyer, CEO of Cambrian Biopharma, has spent two decades in longevity science. In this clip, he breaks down why the first-ever scientific consensus on aging is also an open door for bad actors — and why the only defense is medicines that are proven to work, beyond any doubt. In this wide-ranging fireside chat, Bio Protocol founder Paul Kohlhaas sits down with biotech and crypto investor Christian Angermayer, founder of the Apeiron Investment Group and early backer of atai Life Sciences, Cambrian Bio, and Rejuveron. They explore the intersection of decentralized science (DeSci), longevity, psychedelics, AI, and personal freedom. Christian shares stories from building billion-dollar biotech ventures, discusses the failures of the traditional research system, and calls for radical honesty and autonomy in how we enhance the human experience. From terminal patient trials to self-governed biohacking and regulatory overhauls, this is a bold blueprint for the future of health, medicine, and personal agency.
OpenAI’s new model, GPT-4b micro, is trained with Retro Biosciences to extend human life by 10 years. Sam Altman has been working with Retro on the research for almost a year. What does the micro model do? It tries to re-engineer proteins (Yamanaka factors). This set of proteins can turn our skin cells into younger stem cells, which can be a game changer when building human organs and providing replacement cells. Retro aspires to add 10 years to the human lifespan - starting with Autophagy Enhancement, HSC Reprogramming, and Microglia therapeutics. Other billionaires have joined the longevity race. Jeff Bezos and others are said to have committed $3 billion in funding the Altos Labs, a secretive San Diego-based longevity laboratory. Cambrian Bio Chairman Christian Angermayer has been focusing on developing different anti-aging (slowing aging) treatments and pills, including one to keep a woman’s ovaries younger to prolong the fertility window. Christian Angermayer is seemingly behind every flashy investment of the last decade. With boundless bravado and a roster of famous friends—including Peter Thiel, Uma Thurman, and the president of Rwanda—the German billionaire is getting ready to launch the Enhanced Games, a 21st-century Olympics on steroids—literally. When Angermayer’s friend Aron D’Souza, an entrepreneur and the lawyer who worked with Peter Thiel to take down Gawker Media, mentioned he wanted to disrupt the Olympics by launching a major sporting event that allows athletes to dope with performance-enhancing drugs (under a doctor’s supervision), Angermayer thought the idea was brilliant. In 2018, Angermayer started his own psychedelics firm, ATAI Life Sciences, which he took public on the Nasdaq in 2021. ATAI is conducting clinical trials on a suite of psychedelics, from DMT to ibogaine to MDMA. Somewhere along the line, he also got into Bitcoin. He still owns about 1,000 of them, worth about $58 million at the curre
Like a lot of successful entrepreneurs, James Peyer is a bit of an outlier. He thinks about something differently: Aging. To James, aging is a curable illness, something to be treated or prevented. He sits down with Jessi for a conversation on what led him to create Cambrian Biopharma, and why unorthodox ideas are so critical to the development of society and culture.
