不老長寿テックスタートアップを設立しました｜高橋祥子 投稿 ログイン 会員登録 不老長寿テックスタートアップを設立しました 357 高橋祥子 2024年1月24日 11:02 この度、不老長寿バイオテックスタートアップ「TAZ Inc.」の設立を 発表しました 。どんな想いで取り組んでいるかについて、書きたいと思います。 なぜ今、不老長寿テックが熱いのか 不老長寿という概念は、古くは秦の始皇帝が不老長寿の薬をもとめた時代からから人類の夢として掲げられ、長年にわたって様々な取り組みがなされてきました。一方、近年の科学研究において不老長寿の領域は急速に発展してきていることで、夢から現実になりつつあります。 1980-90年代頃からカロリー制限により寿命が延びるといった研究はなされていましたが、2000年にサーチューイン遺伝子が寿命延伸と関わることが発見され( Nature 403, 795–800 (2000) )、その頃から遺伝子に着目した老化制御の研究が行われてきました。また、2011年にはマウスで老化細胞を除去することで、老化を予防し健康寿命を延ばすことが発見されました( Nature 479, 232–236 (2011) )。それ以降この10年程で「セノリティクス(老化細胞除去薬)」という概念も活発に研究が進んでいます。こういった発見により長寿薬の実現可能性が高まっていること … 月時点での為替換算) このように老化の科学的発見や研究が盛んになっている技術的な背景から、投資も盛んに行われ始めています。 月面探査コンテストなどで知られるX PRIZE Foudationは2023年11月に、高齢者の認知、免疫、筋肉などを10年分若返らせる治療介入に対して総額1億ドル超を提供する不老長寿コンペを 発表 しました。 米国では不老長寿関連のスタートアップが急増し、熱い領域になっています。オープンAIのサム・アルトマン氏がRetro Bioscienceという不老長寿テックのスタートアップに約270億円もの金額を個人投資したことが2023年には ニュースになりました 。不老長寿テック企業にしか投資しないVCであるLogevity Fundも存在し、この投資先でありピーター・ティールやジェフ・ベゾスの投資先でもあるUnity Biotechnologyは老化細胞除去薬の開発を行っており、既にNASDAQ上場もしています。 また一方で、日本の超高齢化社会のように世界的にも高齢者の人口割合が増えています。日本に限らず、様々な世界中の国が今
