Measuring ageing

Your birthday counts years. Molecular clocks read changes in your cells. The ambition is to learn whether a treatment changes the course of ageing while there is still time to act.

The next question

If a clock runs backwards, does the body work better?

Inside the researchHuman tissue data

In 2013, Steve Horvath built an age predictor from DNA methylation: chemical marks on DNA. It used 353 sites and worked across many human tissues. Ageing could now be studied through a shared molecular readout.

What this leaves open. Predicting age is different from proving rejuvenation. A change in the readout needs to be connected to health and function.

ProjectStageStrongest case against
CHANGS
CHANGS is a newly announced 2025 Chulalongkorn University-BGI collaboration in Thailand focused on healthy aging, using omics and AI-based bioinformatics to analyze elderly health, collect volunteer samples and clinical data, and reportedly build outputs such as multi-omic aging measures and organ-aging models.
Early-stage and pre-results.The current evidence is mostly promotional and institution-authored, so the main failure mode is that CHANGS remains a collaboration and training brand without generating validated outputs.
Japan Longevity Consortium
Japan Longevity Consortium is a Japan-based academic consortium led from Juntendo University that is promoting a biomarker-guided, multi-component “Scientific Zen” healthspan program combining washoku-style diet, mild fasting, exercise, yoga/breathing, TEAS, far-infrared therapy, supplementation, and gut-focused management to improve cognition, immune function, and muscle function.
Early but active. The central risk is that this is a high-variance wellness bundle with weak causal attribution, optimistic framing, and insufficient external validation.

Hypotheses

Hypotheses under test in this direction

Published by the Omega Point engine and tagged to this direction by a classifier; the gap each one attacks is named under it

  1. Widening blood vessels creates an apparent oxygen loss at skin repair sitesSep 21, 2026The hypothesis says optical readings can fall after local blood vessel widening without reducing oxygen available to repairing skin. Matched heat and pressure tests would distinguish a sampling effect from real harm by comparing optical readings, independent tissue oxygen measurements, and functional recovery.
  2. Blood antibody tests overstate protection when they do not match tissue infectionSep 21, 2026The hypothesis says blood antibody tests misrepresent protection against tissue infection because they use different pathogen-producing and target cells. Matching those cells and the infection route should remove the discrepancy; continued escape despite a protective matched result would reject it.
  3. Measurement delays create the appearance of unstable glucose control after muscle restorationSep 20, 2026Stronger insulin responsiveness in restored muscle may appear harmful because sensing and sampling distort glucose timing. Synchronized reference glucose and glucose-flux measurements would distinguish this artifact from growing physiological oscillations.
